how to use the tarot cards to make a decision

What if there was an easier way to make decisions? Tarot can guide us in life, we all know that by now, right? But what if tarot could also help you to make decisions? Wouldn’t that be amazing? Would you like to know how to use it?

Imagine not going through hours of worrying if there was a way that you could have the right answers using the tarot. Imagine not having any more headaches or anxiety over what path to pick by just letting the universe guide you through tarot. How exciting would that be?

However, how exactly can you use tarot to make a decision?

How to use the tarot cards to make a decision?

Each tarot card holds a meaning, and each meaning leads us to a specific place in your life. Tarot is excellent to guide you to where you want to be in life, but it also allows you to recognize some of the things that you need to work on in your current situation in order to achieve the future that you desire.

However, tarot can do so much more than just guide you through the challenging times in life, tarot can help you to make difficult decisions.

There are a few techniques that you can use, depending on the problem that you have in your hands. There isn’t a particularly right or wrong when it comes to using tarot as a guide on making a decision. It’s all about what works for you.

When it comes to knowing what the cards are telling you, it’s very similar to reading tarot yet much less complex than a tarot reading. Because when you use tarot for decision making instead of focusing on the bigger picture that is your life, you’ll just focus primarily on the decision ahead.

However, it would be best if you kept in mind that when using tarot cards for decision making, there’s a chance that tarot cards will very rarely give you a precise answer about what to do. Tarot cards usually give you a more profound answer, which you will know how to accept and understand when you have more knowledge. So don’t get frustrated if you don’t get a straight answer. Try to see it from a different perspective and adjust to your situation.

If you are a beginner, you might want to consider using only the major arcana cards for now, as they can be easier to interpret.

Different tarot techniques to use to make decisions

Here I will be sharing with you five different ways to use the tarot cards to make a decision:

Decide with Yes or No Tarot, (using 1 tarot card)

If you are looking for a quick decision, then this single card technique might be the perfect thing for you. However, remember to make your questions very clear and straight to the point. This is simple and adaptable amongst all the tarot readings.

In this technique, you focus on the question as you mix the cards and hold them in your hand. While focusing on what you want to know, you pick one card, and you will have your answer. There is a possibility that you will get a maybe, which means that the future is still unclear.

This technique will also help you to amplify your expertise to make complicated decisions quickly. Although it might sound easy, you need to have a good knowledge of the cards to understand the meaning of each card when searching for a yes or no answer.

How to pick from two different paths, (using 5 tarot cards)

When you are trying to decide between two different choices, this might be an excellent technique to make a decision, while having an insight into what is motivating you to make that choice.

In this technique, you will need five cards:

  • Your card, which represents your desires and what you would like to happen, should be placed in the center.
  • Your motivation card, representing what drives you to keep moving forward, should be placed on top of your card.
  • Your values card that represents your principles and how that will affect your decision, should be placed below your card.
  • The card with option a) symbolizes what will happen if you take this path, will be placed on the left side of your card.
  • The cards with option b) symbolizes what will happen if you take this path, will be placed at the right side of your card.

How to pick from two different paths, (using 7 tarot cards)

This technique is very similar to the previous one, but it adds a couple of more cards. Here you will also be deciding between two different choices.

In this technique, you will use 7 cards:

  • In the center, you will add your card (card number 1), that addresses the decision as a whole, which just gives you a bigger perspective on your choice.
  • On the left side, you will add 3 cards that will be placed as if they were moving upwards; this will represent one of your possible paths. The first card will represent what’s positive in choosing that path, the second card will symbolize a potential challenge in that particular path, and the third card will tell you the likely outcome of taking that path choice.
  • On the right side, you will do the same thing, but this, of course, will represent the other possible path.

Make a decision with probability, (using 5 tarot cards)

This technique is quite similar to the yes option. However, here you don’t need to know the meaning of the cards to have an answer, which is perfect if you are not familiar with the tarot cards just yet.

As you focus on your question, you can shuffle the tarot deck and take 5 cards. Then you will turn them and count how many upright and reversed cards you have; this will help you to know if you are more likely to be near a yes or no decision.

  • 5 upright card means, a very likely yes
  • 4 upright cards, means a mostly likely yes
  • 3 upright cards, means a somewhat likely yes
  • 2 upright cards, means an unlikely yes
  • 1 upright card, means a very unlikely yes
  • 0 upright cards, means a most likely no

Although this is probably a comprehensive answer to your decision, it can be used for guidance if you don’t know how to read tarot.

Make a decision with multiple choices, (using 3 tarot cards)

If you find yourself in a situation where you have to pick between more than just two different choices, then this technique might be the best choice for you. This is a very similar technique as some of the previous ones, but instead of picking between two paths, you will do a reading for each option due to being more than just two options.

After shuffling your deck and focusing on the option that you are considering, you will take three cards. The first card will symbolize what’s positive in choosing that option, the second will represent possible obstacles, and the third card will allow you to know the potential outcome of picking that option.

Due to the multiple choices, you should take note of each reading and compare the results at the end.

After each reading, you should place the three cards back into the deck and shuffle; you will then repeat the same technique until you have done it for every possible choice.

This will give you an insight into each possible outcome and should help you to make a final decision.

Final thoughts:

Tarot is a great way to allow you to consider your options. It gives you light towards the problems that you are facing at the moment, and it can help you to have some clarity on the path ahead.

However, the real magic of tarot is to allow you to see the positive options that life has to offer you and keep your hope alive while you find your right path towards a beautiful life ahead.
