The Two Faces of Prosperity

Being comfortable with your material possessions can be a fantastic source of inner peace. Furthermore, in the pursuit of such a state of being, it is easy to fall into the mentality of “I would just be happy if…” This “if” can take many forms: if I was a millionaire, if I had a nice car, if I lived in a better neighborhood. However, material abundance will not provide you with a perfect life. While you may receive what you want, you may find that you have neglected the needs of both yourself and others.

Lately, your ambition to achieve your goals in the material world has led you down a path of high energy and potentially risky decisions. You have been absolutely convinced that it will all work out in the end, and have put little thought into the potential consequences of your actions. In order to maintain any relationship, it is important to place your partner’s wellbeing on the same level of importance as your own. Looking out for the interests of your partner has a variety of benefits: it will build trust, reduce potential sources of friction, builds your ability to work together as a team, and facilitates healthy communication. However, this is not always the easiest thing to do, and we may begin to push those we love the most to the wayside without even noticing. Many times, we may not realize that we’ve neglected the interests of others until it is too late.

It can be a dog-eat-dog world out there. In order to get what you want, it can be easy to assume that everyone is a potential competitor. While working as a team may be advantageous in certain circumstances, your own personal interests generally stay at the forefront of your motivations. Because of this, there have been times that you’ve done things for your own benefit that may have harmed others. 

Perhaps you’ve taken credit for something that you didn’t actually do. Or you may have turned a blind eye to injustices for the sake of maintaining your own comfort and stability. Others have noticed this, and it has not been particularly good for your reputation. This may be a source of tension in your place of employment, making it difficult for everyone to enjoy the time that is spent together. However, pushing yourself up by dragging others down will only come back to haunt you in the end. While it is normal to prioritize your own achievements, using them as an excuse to mistreat others will only serve to lessen your chances of finding success in the long run. Take some time to identify the moments where you may have stepped on some toes, and make an effort to right any wrongs that you may have done. 

Not only will this help to repair any damage that you may have caused, it will also prove to others that you are someone worth having faith in. They will see that you are able to admit when you make mistakes, and genuinely care for the wellbeing of others. As you build more allies, you may be surprised to find that they are far more helpful in achieving your goals than you had originally thought. After all, it is much easier to work with a willing group than it is to fight against an army of adversaries.

Helping others will generally only generate more positivity, and may turn around to benefit you in the end. However, when The 4 of Pentacles appears in the reversed position, it may be a sign that you are focusing too much on what you stand to gain. Assisting others is meant to be an act of selflessness; focusing on the potential rewards is not a good reason to get involved in the struggles of others. In the end, this may serve to only make the situation worse for the both of you. 

Chances are, they will not reward you to the standards that you expected, if they reward you at all. If you are expecting money, gifts, or any other benefits from your act of generosity and goodwill, then this is a sign that it is time for you to let that go. Instead, focus on helping others purely out of the kindness of your heart. After all, seeing someone’s mood improve when they are on the receiving end of a selfless act of kindness is one of the greatest rewards that you could possibly receive.

This card largely relates to matters of finance. The 4 of Pentacles sends a message that money is not the same as freedom. This card is often depicted with a man clutching four different pentacles close to his body. No one can touch these pentacles, but the man is also unable to move. In conclusion, the Four of Pentacles is a striking NO.
