Unconditional Empathy

In this world, there are some who value the lives of others far more than their own comfort. The Queen of Pentacles is one such person; she will oftentimes be found on the frontlines of charitable work, working up a sweat as she does everything in her power to assist and empower others. This does not mean that she does not care about herself, but would much rather spend her time and resources on others. 

Her very existence is based on the needs of those around her, and she is willing to lend a helping hand to everyone, regardless of who they may be. Her indiscriminate generosity has led her subjects to love and cherish her unquestioningly, and her unending compassion teaches others that that the most honorable professions are ones that improve the lives of others.

You are much like The Queen, and focus the majority of your time on helping those around you. Even though it can be exhausting, there is nothing you would rather do than use your time and resources to assist those who are in need. Your empathy is easily triggered, and you naturally gravitate towards being charitable even when it is not explicitly requested. You have a history of reaching out to those who are struggling even when it feels like they are completely alone in the world, and have offered love and comfort to many people when they have been at their lowest point. However, even when others may beg you to take care of yourself, you are far more comfortable dedicating your efforts to supporting others. This hasn’t always ended well; sometimes, you fall into low periods of depression and hardship due to self-neglect. 

Those that love you the most oftentimes need to force you to stop your charitable efforts for a moment so as to focus on your own needs, and the attention that comes with their concern can sometimes make you very uncomfortable. By taking better care of yourself and your needs, you will subsequently be allowing yourself to do far more on behalf of other people.

When you are in a dedicated relationship, looking out for the wellbeing of your partner is just as important as looking out for your own personal wellbeing. There are times where one partner may need more support than the other due to various other external circumstances, but in general, it is a two-way street that should consist of equal effort from both parties. 

There are a number of issues that can arise from a relationship where these efforts are not equal, and an imbalance in the amount of support that one partner receives from the other may lead to a slew of developments that could potentially threaten the relationship as a whole. One or both partners may not be offering the support that the other needs, or on the other end of the spectrum, they may be focusing far too much on the interests of their partner in such a way that their own needs are being neglected.

In your current romantic relationship, you may be placing too much of an emphasis on the interests of your partner, subsequently ignoring your own wants and needs. If you have a supportive partner that is willing and able to pick up this slack for you, then this may not necessarily be too bad of a thing. Best-case scenario, you should be able to satisfy your own needs without too much intervention from others. However, this is not always going to be the correct solution for every situation. 

While it would be wise to consider setting more time aside to focus on yourself, it is okay to have faith in your partner’s ability to support these gaps in your personal care. At the same time, if your partner is not properly making up for the time and effort that you are giving to their interests instead of caring for yourself, then it may be time to pull back and let them begin caring for themselves. It may be difficult, especially if you have agreed to dedicate your life to them, but there are times where you need to look out for yourself first. If your partner truly cares for you, then they will be glad to see that you are taking the time to care for yourself, even if they have to learn how to function more independently.

Letting yourself become personally attached to your job can serve to both improve the quality of the work that you produce and make the entire work experience far more enjoyable. You may find yourself personally invested in the inner workings of your place of employment as you build comradery and a sense of companionship with your coworkers. 

As time goes on, you may even begin to care for your coworkers as more than just “work buddies”; they may evolve into true friendships that will last far into the future. Instead of working purely for the sake of your own performance, you may begin to prioritize the productivity of the whole group, even going so far as to neglect your own responsibilities to as to help others complete their own. This has put you in a unique, but tricky situation: while you are recognized as a good employee that gets large amounts of quality work done, your tendency to focus on the work of others instead of your own has made it look as though you are a far less productive member of the work team.

If you find yourself in such a situation that your loyalty and empathy for those struggling with their own workloads has begun to impact your individual performance, then it may be time that you remember the underlying reason that you work in the first place. In all reality, you are not working for others, and you are definitely not completing tasks for the sake of your employer purely out of the kindness of your heart. You are here to get a paycheck, build your resume, ensure a stable future, and reap the various other benefits of maintaining consistent employment. 

While it is normal to care about the performance of your entire team, there are times where you need to let other employees fend for themselves. You can provide them with information and guidance that will help them move forward on their own, but you won’t be able to hold their hand every step of the way. If they truly care abut their job, and respect you as a coworker, they will understand that you have your own things that you need to do.

When focusing the majority of your time on other people, it can be very easy to fall into unhealthy habits in your own life. When The Queen of Pentacles appears in the reversed position, it may be a sign that you are neglecting your own health even as you are working to improve the lives of others. It is time for you to step back and take a hard look at how you are living and the impact that it is having on your mind and body. 

Are you keeping yourself physically healthy by eating right, getting enough sleep, and taking any medications that may be prescribed to you? Are you keeping your mind healthy by taking time to relax and unwind, utilizing appropriate coping strategies to manage your stress, and maintaining healthy relationships with the members of your support system? If not, then you need to start seriously considering changing your personal habits so as to take better care of yourself. 

This is not to say that you need to stop dedicating yourself to others; instead, consider it as an opportunity to strengthen yourself so that you may help those around you even more than ever before.
